Nail Polish Thinner
Nail polish is one of the most basic elements in every woman’s handbag. We usually carry one or two with us, just in case. In addition, we keep a small collection at home so that we have a few options for doing our nails by ourselves. And of course, getting a manicure at a nail salon is a treat that we like to give ourselves from time to time.
As with most things that are popular, manufacturers have come up with dozens of colors and designs of nail polish in order to appeal to the many tastes and likes of women.
One of the products that has become an essential element in any manicure kit is the nail polish thinner. It is very important not to confuse the nail polish thinner with the nail polish remover. The nail polish remover is used to take polish off nails because it’s damaged or because a new coat of new polish is going to be applied.
Nail polish thinner is something completely different. It’s used to bring back to life nail polish that has thickened over the time to the point that it’s not as effective as it used to be. This thickness is a chemical process of most nail polishes and it makes them difficult to apply, as it loses its consistency.
If you want to know whether you need nail polish thinner for your nail polish bottle, use this simple rule. Once you dip the brush, you need to be able to apply at least two coats of nail polish without problems before you need to redip the brush again. If you can only get one coat or if the second coat differs greatly in quality from the first, it’s time to use nail polish thinner.
Also, while all types of nail polish thinner are supposed to work well with all types of nail polish, it’s better to get the same brand of the nail polish itself. Also, be aware that nail polish thinner might inhibit some properties of special types of nail polish; for example, those that change color with the sunlight or those that are classified as super dry.
When you add the nail polish thinner to the bottle of nail polish, try just a little at first. You can add later more if you want, but you can’t take away the drops you’ve put. Using too much nail polish thinner can ruin the formula, so take it easy.
While most people shake the bottle in order to mix the nail polish thinner with the polish, it’s better to roll it between your palms, as shaking it can create bubbles that will be seen on applications of nail polish.
Finally, one common mistake to avoid: don’t make the mistake of using nail polish remover instead of nail polish thinner, and vice versa.
